From 21 to 25 September 2026, a World Bank team conducted a regular implementation support mission to review the progress of the Agriculture Modernization Project, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy.
During the mission, visible progress was noted in the implementation of key project activities, with several major investments moving from the preparation stage towards procurement and physical implementation. Particular attention was given to capital investments, the establishment of the Integrated Agricultural Information Platform, strengthening institutional capacities, and preparations for the future operation of the agricultural logistics centers.
World Bank representatives held a series of working and technical meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, the Ministry of Finance, the Agency for Financial Support in Agriculture and Rural Development, the Joint Stock Company for Construction and Management of Residential and Commercial Property of Importance to the Republic – Skopje, as well as other institutions and partners involved in the implementation of the Project.
The meetings highlighted the commitment demonstrated by the institutions and the Project team, as well as the progress achieved in implementing the agreed activities. Of the 13 milestones set out in the action plan agreed during the previous mission, 11 have been completed, while activities related to the remaining two are ongoing.
Significant progress has also been made in establishing the Integrated Agricultural Information Platform, which will contribute to more efficient use of relevant and timely data for agricultural policy analysis and evidence-based decision-making. The procurement process is in its final stage, while preparations are also underway for implementation, testing, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the system.
As part of the mission, World Bank representatives also visited the Agency for Financial Support in Agriculture and Rural Development, where they were briefed on the ongoing reconstruction of its administrative building. The progress achieved so far, the organization of the construction site, and the commitment of all parties involved to intensify the works were positively acknowledged.
Positive steps are also being taken in preparations for the future management of the agricultural logistics centers. The designated managing entity expressed its readiness to develop this new business function, while targeted technical and advisory support is being prepared under the Project to help establish a sustainable institutional, management, and operational model.
With regard to the financing and implementation of capital investments, the mission also reviewed options for securing additional funding and creating the necessary conditions for the smooth completion and full functionality of the planned investments. The Ministry of Finance confirmed its support for the successful completion of ongoing projects and for considering appropriate solutions where justified needs exist.
The mission reaffirmed the strong cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, the World Bank, and the other institutions involved in the Project. In the coming period, activities will continue with intensified efforts and a clear focus on implementing the agreed priorities, with the aim of ensuring that the investments deliver long-term and sustainable results for the modernization of the agricultural sector.
